s5231The Rykami Arysane Sketchbook |
I sketch a hand-drawn map from memory, so that I can map out where I think I can understand language. Red ballpoint marks my travels. Some fluency is the province of the future; this is grayed out. A smaller map of St. Louis (Arynluimy) shows familiar territory, a map that would be drawn now and again, relevant to a transplant from Joliet. The timeline at the right shows growth and depression across my life, graduated in anrenyn (“Reneyan years”, periods of 432 days) and in Gregorian at right. The context, “I am a man in my prime living in a society in its cyclical decline”, is foreboding. The sexagesimal argam arimaxa appears at the center of the pages, above the map of St. Louis, with its 60 digits. Ballpoint and marker, drawn 20 August 1997, Tayya 58a0, five dozen eighth phase (Ñixaþa-Alindðal Xrga, “life phase of Lindsay”), at Cafe Danielle on Euclid Avenue. The portrait of Amagal (s5231a44) has bled through the left page 2 days later.
