Once we establish or obtain the DEM (digital elevation model) it becomes easy to determine a rough approach to mass excavation. Vinci understands construction and can use your rules of thumb to cast a layback or sheet pile wall. Vinci can model wood lagging with walers or shotcrete, or come up with something different. We can also be more nondescript. This sort of informal study typically happens fairly early in the modeling process.
